ISO 10383

The Market Identifier Code (MIC ) is a function defined in the ISO 10383 unique four- digit identification number for exchanges and other trading venues.

Background

The London Stock Exchange uses the MIC as part of their SEDOL numbers, so as to allow a clear identification of securities.

Although the ISIN alone represents a unique identification of a security, but does not determine which trading course this is done, so that eg in information retrieval from Bloomberg also stating stock exchange is needed most.

Construction

Approximately half of the MIC starts with an " X". Overall, it is a four digit alphanumeric code. Currently, there are 800 valid values. The list is published monthly basis.
