ISO 13849

The standard EN ISO 13849 is a security-specific standard, which deals with design guidelines for safety-related parts of control systems. Part 1 defines general principles for design Part 2 describes the validation.

Classification

The EN ISO 13849 is a generic safety standard type B1 according to EN ISO 12100-1, ie a safety standard for defined security aspects. The standard replaces the retracted in February 2007 EN 954 In Germany it is valid as a DIN standard DIN EN ISO 13849.

Scope

The standard provides safety requirements and guidance for the design and integration of safety-related parts of control systems of machines are, including the development of software. It specifies properties of these parts which are necessary to perform the required safety functions.

Part 2 defines validation procedures, including analysis and testing, for the safety functions of the relevant parts of the controls fixed.

The standard applies to all kinds of machines, regardless of the technology used (eg, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical). It can be applied for non- separating protective devices (eg locking ), electro-sensitive protective equipment (eg light barriers ), control modules and power switching elements (eg, relay). It applies both to simple machines (eg food processors), as well as for complex manufacturing systems.
