ISO 3166-2:JP

The list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Japan contains the codes for the 47 prefectures of Japan.

The codes are composed of two parts which are separated by a hyphen. The first part is the country code according to ISO 3166-1 ( for Japan, JP ), the second the code for the prefecture again. The current country code has not been updated since the publication in 1998.

The list has its origins in Japan Industrial Standard JIS X 0401:1973 -. To-do -fu- ken ( prefecture ) identification code of 1973, the prefectures are by geographical location (mainly from north to south, taking account of the Regions) continuously from 01-47 numbered.
