Isola del Giglio

Isola del Giglio ( German: Giglio Island ) is a municipality in the province of Grosseto in Tuscany region of Italy. The municipality consists of the two inhabited islands of Giglio and Giannutri and some small rocky islets (including Isola della Cappa ). Giglio is located about 50 kilometers southeast of Elba and about 18 kilometers west of the Monte Argentario peninsula. Giannutri located 14 kilometers south of Monte Argentario.

The majority of the almost 1500 inhabitants living in the three villages Porto, Castello and Campese the island of Giglio. On Giannutri only live about ten people.

On the island of Giglio drove on 13 January 2012, the cruise ship Costa Concordia with more than 4,000 passengers too close to the rock group Le Scole past and slashed themselves while on the hull. It ran a few hundred meters north of the harbor aground and capsized.
