Isola del Liri

Isola del Liri is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 11,923 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012). It is located 104 km east of Rome and 23 km east of Frosinone.

Geography

The old town of Isola del Liri is located on an island between two arms of the Liri. Its districts are: Capitino, Carnello, San Domenico and Selva.

Isola del Liri is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle del Liri.

History

Isola del Liri in pre-Roman times was a settlement of the Volscians, who was closely associated with Arpino and Sora and came up with these in 305 BC to the dominion of the Roman Republic.

In the Middle Ages it was under the name " Insula Filiorum Petri " part of the Principality of Capua. Isola del Liri in 1861 became part of the Kingdom of Italy. In 1927 it came from the province of Terra del Lavoro to the newly formed province of Frosinone
