Isolabona

Isolabona ( in Ligurian: L' isura ) is a municipality with 674 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the northern Italian region of Liguria. Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia.

Geography

Isolabona located in the Val Nervia, between the mountain communities of Rocchetta Nervina the north and Dolce Acqua in the south. Situated on a hill and surrounded by a city wall place is a typical representative of the Ligurian mountain villages. Narrow alleys connect the two main squares, Piazza Piccola and Piazza Grande. The first is an octagonal fountain is from the year 1486, on the Piazza Grande, however, are the oratory and the parish church.

The name Isolabona is composed of the words insula, meaning to German island and indicating the location of the village on an island in the river Nervia, and from the word bona, what can be translated as well and for the warmth and hospitality of the inhabitants, how shall also stand for the mild climate.

Isolabona belongs to the Comunità Montana Intemelia and is approximately 52 km from the provincial capital of Imperia.

According to the Italian classifications for seismic activity, the community of Zone 3 was assigned. This means that Isolabona is in a seismically active zone little.

Climate

The municipality is classified under climate category D, as the number of degree days has a value of 1502. This means that in Italy legally regulated heating season is between November 1 and April 15 for 12 hours per day.

Specialty

In the vicinity of the only noteworthy DOC Red Wine also is grown in Liguria - Rossese of Dolce Acqua.
