Isovaline (also called short Iva ) is a rare α - amino acid, which was found in meteorites ( eg, in the Murchison meteorite ). It occurs in two enantiomeric forms, L- isovaline [ Synonym: (S)- isovaline ] and D- isovaline [ Synonym: (R)- isovaline ] and is at its left-handed form of a good catalyst, to produce right-hand sugar molecules. Structurally isovaline derives by substitution of the α - hydrogen atom by an amino group (-NH2) of the 2- methyl butyric acid. L- valine and L- norvaline are constitutional isomers.
