Israel River in Lancaster
The Israel River is a left tributary of the Connecticut River in Coös County of the U.S. state of New Hampshire.
The Israel River rises in the White Mountains at the foot of the Presidential Range northwest of Mount Adams. From there it flows in a predominantly west-north- westerly direction. In parts of the U.S. Highway 2 follows the river. The Israel River flows south on Jefferson past, through the village of Lancaster and ends shortly thereafter in the Connecticut River. The Israel River has a length of 38 km. It drains an area of 347 km ².
Naming
The river was named after the hunter and trapper Israel Glines. The south of the Israel River running Johns River was named after Israel 's brother John.
Covered Bridges
In Lancaster, the Mechanic Street Bridge spans the Israel River. Was built the covered bridge in 1862.
