Israeli Transverse Mercator

Israeli Transverse Mercator ( Hebrew: רשת ישראל החדשה Reschet Hadascha Yisrael ) is the New Geographical coordinates system for Israel. The name reflects the fact into account that the ITM is based on an optimized version of the Israel Transverse Mercator projection. ITM replaces the old Israeli Coordinate System ICS. This system is still partially the basis for the " New Israeli Grid". ITM has been introduced with effect from 1 January 1994. The central meridian in the new projection is as in the old through Jerusalem.

Example

An ITM coordinate generally consists of a pair of six numbers ( only digits after the decimal point that are necessary for very detailed information ). The first number is always the Ostung and the second is the Nordung. The eastern and northern Data are expressed as meter information.

The ITM coordinates for the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem are:

The conversion from the UTM coordinate system in ITM coordinates or vice versa is possible.
