Issaquah ( ɪsəkwɔ ) is a city in King County, Washington State, USA, with 30 434 inhabitants ( 2010 census ). The municipality is the headquarters of the 500 listed in the stock index S & P retail chain Costco Wholesale.

Geography

Issaquah is located at the southern end of Lake Sammamish, a few miles east of Seattle. The city is bordered on three sides by the Issaquah Alps: Cougar Mountain on the west, Squak Mountain to the south, and Tiger Mountain to the east. In the north of Issaquah is Lake Sammamish.

History

The town was founded on April 29, 1892. First, the place was called Gilman, was founded in 1899 but renamed in Issaquah. The name comes from the Issaquah resident Indians. The exact origin is controversial. Presumably, they imitated the food gather near the lake, the croaking of the ducks, and from Issaquah was coined to describe the place .. Until the Great Depression of 1929 the mining of coal coined at Tiger Mountain and the lumber business, the economy of the community. Boeing Built in the early 20th century factories and workshops in the place. The company built there their first wooden seaplane and tested it on Lake Sammamish. End of the 20th century, Microsoft opened offices in the community. 1996 laid the retailer Costco Wholesale headquarters of Kirkland Issaquah.
