Istanbul Airport

Istanbul has two international airports:

  • The Istanbul- Ataturk (IST ) Airport is the older and more significant airports. It is located about 24 km southwest of the city center in the European part of Istanbul. Almost all scheduled flights are handled here.
  • The airport Sabiha Gökçen ( SAW) was opened in 2001. It is located on the Asian side of Istanbul and is served mainly by charter airlines.

A major airport is being planned; the construction is scheduled to begin in 2014:
