Isterberg

The community Isterberg in the Lower Saxon district county of Bentheim was established on March 1, 1974 from the merger of the municipalities Wengsel and Neerlage. It lies between Bad Bentheim and Nordhorn and belongs to Samtgemeinde Schüttorf.

A real village does not exist. The community is named after the mountain which is one of the last foothills of the Teutoburg Forest with a height of 68 meters in the municipality.

The farthest foothills of the Teutoburg Forest is not located directly at the Isterberg, but ends in Guild Hall. At the Gronau road, outskirts of Guildhall towards the Netherlands, listen to the last trees of the Teutoburg Forest. We can assume, however, that extended in former times the Teutoburg forest to the Princely Busch, who is in the peasantry Bardel.

There is a local YMCA ( YMCA Isterberg - Quendorf ), which not only the youth but also adults - particularly senior citizens - serves as a meeting place. Furthermore, there is a rural youth club in Isterberg who organized a well-known tent festival in the county each year, among others. In the volunteer fire department Isterberg many volunteers involved.
