ISU Speed Skating World Cup

The Essent ISU World Cup was introduced in the 1985/86 season. The competitions are held from November to March instead of up to nine different World Cup places. Here, with most events are not all but only ran a variety of disciplines, and there are events where only short-range (up to 1000 meters) as well as events where only long-distance running (from 1500 meters). For the first time in the 2011/12 season, a total score was introduced, which is referred to as the " Grand World Cup".

At present there are six disciplines for men and women in the program. First of all, these are the individual distances over 500 meters, 1000 meters and 1500 meters, and finally the long haul, which is a combination with the ladies from 3000 and 5000 meters and in the men of 5000 and 10,000 meters. The 100 - meter track, running for the first time in the season 2003/ 04, was taken from the season 2009/10 from the program. Furthermore, the the, Come added since the 2005/ 06 season, team pursuit. In contrast to the implementation of the Olympic Games run ( for the first time at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin in the program), in which two teams against each other, the winner of the next round comes and the loser is eliminated, is organized as a pure time run at the World Cup team competition in which each team runs only once and the team with the fastest total time finally wins. Recent discipline and thus discipline sixth in the World Cup is the so-called mass start, which was first included in the 2011/12 season in the World Cup program. Only as a demonstration event of the so-called Team Sprint was held previously at various World Cup events.
