It's Only Rock 'n Roll

Occupation

It's Only Rock ' n ' Roll is the twelfth studio album by the Rolling Stones. Published by WEA, was produced on 18 October 1974. Album in Musicland Studios in Munich by The Glimmer Twins, a pseudonym used Mick Jagger and Keith Richards for their activities as producers of their own music from 1973.

It's Only Rock ' n ' Roll forms the state of the band at the time, probably from adequate. "Dance Little Sister" with Keith Richards ' passionate guitar riffs, the soul classic " Is not Too Proud to Beg ", the opener " If You Can not Rock Me " and the title track are still typical Stones work. Otherwise, this album leaves the listener the impression of a clear identity crisis of the Rolling Stones. They were now on that establishment, which was still a few years earlier target of their angry criticism. Musically, they released some of the most important and successful albums and singles this time in the period 1968-1972 and the expectations of each new album the Stones were high. For this, the drug problems of some band members, as well as personal and musical differences within the band aggravated the situation.

Two months after the release of It's Only Rock ' n' Roll, on 12 December 1974 Mick Jagger announced in a press conference following the resignation of Mick Taylor in the band known. The lack of harmony and "chemistry" between Keith Richards and Mick Taylor are said to have played a significant role in the development of the band at this time. However, many Rolling Stones fans feel precisely the period in which Taylor guitarist with the Stones was as musically best of the band. Taylor's virtuoso guitar playing and running, as well as his melodic understanding have significantly influenced the music of the Rolling Stones. Through the song "Time Waits for No One" and playing the guitar contained therein, slightly self-indulgent and partially reminiscent of Carlos Santana, you can get a taste of Taylor's abilities.

In " Till the Next Goodbye" is a coined by Jagger's soft vocal ballad of a love story from Manhattan. With " Short and Curlies " the panel also includes a Boogie Woogie - Ian Stewart served here the piano. In the title song in the first draft Ronnie Wood was involved (along with Mick Jagger ); later gave the played by Keith Richards Chuck Berry riffs " It's Only Rock ' n ' Roll (But I Like It) " its groove. A song with gospel influences, like "Let It Loose " from the album Exile on Main Street is, "If You Really Want to Be My Friend ".

In addition, the Stones start on this LP to experiment with reggae and funk rhythms, as will be seen in the titles of " Luxury" and especially " Fingerprint File". Later they should continue this approach in the follow-up album Black and Blue. " Fingerprint File " focuses on the dominant in the 1970s, social paranoia regarding surveillance and interference by the state, which was probably helped by the Watergate scandal; " Fingerprint File" reminds with its thumping bass lines and the wah - wah guitar effects to the soundtrack of Superfly.

The album, which was incidentally produced the first of The Glimmer Twins, was reticent reviews, proved to be very successful commercially.
