It Came Upon the Midnight Clear

It came upon the midnight was clear, and It came upon a midnight clear, is a poem and Christmas carol ( Carol ), which by Edmund H. Sears ( 1810-1876 ), a priest of the American Unitarian Association in Wayland (Massachusetts), written. He published the poem fünfstrophige in 1849.

The text of Sears is mostly sung in two different melodies: (1 ) Carol, composed by Richard Storrs Willis, or (2 ) Noel for an English melody ( 1874 by Arthur Sullivan ( 1842-1900 ) ). In some English-language hymnals various, differing versions of the text are included.
