Itaituba is a city in the Brazilian state of Pará. It lies on the Rio Tapajós and had in 2011 about 98,000 inhabitants. The area of ​​the municipality is 62041 km ². Itaituba is one of the economic centers in the western part of the state.

Economy

Itaituba is the center of an area in which along the Tapajós River and its tributaries gold is mined. The gold mining camps ( garimpos ) were the Garimpeiros and are still often supplied by small aircraft with necessary goods and fuel.
