Itajá, Goiás

Itajá is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Goiás in the mesoregion southern Goiás and the micro-region Quirinópolis. It is located southwest of the Brazilian capital Brasília and the capital of the state, Goiânia.

Other villages in the municipality are Termas de Itajá, Olaria as Fumaça and Aporé (the latter at the mouth of the Rio Aporé in the Rio Paranaíba ).

Location

Itajá borders the following municipalities:

  • On the northeast by Itarumã
  • On the southeast by Limeira do Oeste (MG)
  • On the southwest by Lagoa Santa, Paranaíba and Cassilândia (both MS)
  • To the northwest by Aporé

The community is located between the rivers Rio and Rio Corrente Aporé (also called Rio do Peixe, the Aporé means river of the fish ). Both flow from northwest to southeast and open as the right tributaries in the Rio Paranaíba respectively its Ilha - Solteira Reservoir, which forms the southeastern boundary of the municipality. The Rio Aporé opens at the tri-border region of Goiás, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul in Rio Paranaíba.
