Italian Labour Union

The Unione Italiana del Lavoro ( UIL ) ( in German: Italian labor union) is one of the largest trade union alliances in Italy. The Trade Union Confederation should not be confused with the homonymous union, which was from 1918 to 1925.

Origin

In the fifties, the largest Italian trade union confederation CGIL approached politically to the Italian Communist Party. For this reason, a group of Catholic and Social Democratic trade unionists inspired split off, who founded the CISL. After the PSLI with the PSU merged to PSDI, the claim was loud, to form their own union, which is neither pro- Communist nor emphasizes denominational. Thus, the Federazione Italiana del Lavoro was founded on March 5, 1950, which later became the Unione Italiana del Lavoro and is oriented mainly social democratic.

In recent years, the CISL and UIL were largely united in the labor dispute, whereas developed a latent controversy to the CGIL.
