Italo Montemezzi

Italo Montemezzi (* August 4, 1875 in Vigasio, † May 15, 1952 ) was an Italian composer of the late Romantic period.

Montemezzi was mainly active in Milan, where he was partially premiered at the Teatro alla Scala in his works. He was known primarily as a composer of operas whose musical style of Richard Wagner and the Italian verismo is affected.

His most famous opera, L' amore dei tre re on a libretto by Sem Benelli. Although in 1913, first performed at La Scala opera never belonged to the standard repertoire of opera houses, but was repeatedly sung by great singers such as Ezio Pinza, Cesare Siepi, Lucrezia Bori, Grace Moore, Rosa Ponselle and Anna Moffo. In German-speaking opera was last seen at the Bregenz Festival in 1998 on the stage.
