Italo Zilioli

Italo Zilioli (* September 24, 1941 in Turin, Italy ) is an Italian former racing cyclist.

After he was 1959 Italian junior champion in singles road driving, remained from great success in the amateurs. So he moved 1962 into the professional and was able to gain 6 victories in the following year. At the Giro d ` Italia came Zilioli 1964, 1965 and 1966 on his best results when he could be each second in the overall standings. In 1969, he was ranked at # 3 and shone in 1965, 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1972, each with a stage victory.

The Tour de France denied the Northern Italians three times: in 1970 he won a stage and finished in 13th place, while he had to retire prior to 1968 and 1972. Zilioli was temporary teammate Felice Gimondi (1967 ), Franco Bitossi (1968 /69), Eddy Merckx (1970) and Gösta Pettersson (1971). In the 15 years as a professional driver Zilioli celebrated 55 wins and numerous other successes. So he won the Italian one-day race Giro dell Emilia, Giro dell Piedmont, Giro dell Ticino, Giro dell Apennines Giro dell Campania and Veneto Giro dell. In 1966 he also won the Championship of Zurich. In 1976, he finished 35 - year his active career as Professionel.

Today Zilioli at the Giro d'Italia is responsible for the stages of startup.
