Itamar Rabinovich

Itamar Rabinovich ( Hebrew: איתמר רבינוביץ, born 1942 in Jerusalem) is a professor emeritus of Middle East history at the University of Tel Aviv, a former Israeli ambassador to the United States and Israel's chief negotiator in the peace negotiations with Syria in the 1990s.

Rabinovich received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Master of Arts ( MA) at the University of Tel Aviv and finally received the Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles.

From 1992 to 1995 he was chief negotiator for Israel in the peace negotiations with Syria, 1993-1996 Israeli Ambassador to the United States. He then worked as a professor at Cornell University and was appointed President of the University of Tel Aviv. He leads the Dan David Foundation. He worked at several universities as a guest lecturer, including at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Rabinovich was awarded the French Ordre des Palmes Académiques. In 2007 he was awarded the Grand Gold Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria. In 2009 he received together with Sari Nusseibeh, the Peace Prize of the siblings grain and barley -Stiftung. In the same year he was appointed a member of the American Philosophical Society.

Rabinovich is married and has two daughters.
