Itanagar is the capital of the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and located at the foothills of the Himalayas.

It has about 35,000 inhabitants and is a trading center for agricultural products from the area.

In the rainy city, there is a new Tibetan Buddhist monastery, a temple that is representative of the Burmese form of Buddhism ( Theravada ) and the Itafort, a fortress from the 15th century.

Itanagar is the seat of the diocese of Itanagar.
