Iténez Province

Iténez is a province in the eastern part of the department of Beni in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province is one of eight provinces in the department of Beni. It is bordered to the west by the province Mamoré, on the southwest by the province of Cercado, on the southeast by the Department of Santa Cruz, and to the east and north by the Republic of Brazil.

The province extends approximately between 12 ° 25 'and 14 ° 15' south latitude and 61 ° 30 'and 64 ° 25 ' west longitude, their extent from west to east is up to 390 kilometers from north to south 260 km.

Population

The population of the province of Cercado has risen in the past two decades by about a third:

50.7 % of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 86.0 percent.

99.6 percent of the population speaking Spanish, 0.4 percent Quechua, Aymara 0.3 percent, and 2.6 percent other indigenous languages. (1992)

69.4 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 32.7 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

86.3 percent of the population are Catholics, 12.3 percent are Protestant (1992).

Structure

The Iténez province is divided into the following three Municipalities:

  • Magdalena ( 14,156 km ²) in the northwestern part of the province - 11,613 inhabitants - 0.8 inhabitants / km ² (2010)
  • Baures ( 21,684 km ²) in the eastern part of the province - 5,046 inhabitants - 0.2 inhabitants / km ²
  • Huacaraje ( 5446 km ²) in the southwestern part of the province - 3,807 inhabitants - 0.7 inhabitants / km ²
