Iteraplan

Iteraplan is an open source tool for the management of an enterprise architecture, with a focus on the IT landscape management. The aim of iteraplan is to enable rapid access to EAM to simplify EAM by tool support and promote the cooperation of enterprise architects.

Properties

With iteraplan allows all areas of an enterprise architecture map. Not only the IT-related areas, but the whole company is recognized as the business architecture, the information system architecture and technical architecture.

  • Technical domains are the highest and coarsest structure of the company, they describe the main activity units.
  • Business processes are a result of business activities that seek a particular outcome. Business processes in their entirety implement the business task.

  • Business objects are concrete or abstract objects are used by business processes and implemented by information systems, such as customer or order.
  • An information system according to one or more domain summarizes criteria together different information systems. They are often used to divide the one hand, the application landscape and on the other hand the responsibilities for development planning.
  • An information system is a software or a software package that supports the professional functions.
  • Interfaces define the dependencies between information systems, and in the building management, only the flow of information is mapped.
  • Architecture domains are structuring the blueprints, the standardization catalog for technical development.
  • Technical building blocks are information for the implementation of information systems or interfaces.
  • Infrastructure elements are the logical hardware and network entities on which information systems are operated, for example, clients, servers, storage.
  • A project is a unique process, which consists of a set of coordinated, controlled activities with start and finish dates, and is performed by taking into account of constraints in terms of time, cost and resources to achieve a goal.

After the detection of the actual state and the desired target situation can be mapped to iteraplan. It is possible different - build target states - for example, temporally sequential. Besides the graphical presentation of these different development plans there are to iteraplan numerous other possibilities of visualization. So there portfolio and information flow diagrams, mapping tables and lists. All graphical analyzes can be adapted to their own needs and save.

An Excel and XMI export function, data from iteraplan be further processed with other programs.

Licenses

In addition to the free Community Edition, there is also a paid Enterprise Edition. Although the software license is also free to be a maintenance contract and conduct an initial consultation with the iteratec GmbH it is certainly desirable. For the Enterprise Edition has the following additional functions:

  • The use of different users, roles and rights is possible in the Enterprise Edition.
  • The Enterprise Edition can be attached to an existing LDAP server.
  • Via a data import interface, the initial acquisition of existing data is facilitated.
  • In order to enable the transition to new iteraplan Releases Edition migration scripts are provided for the Enterprise, by means of which the acquisition of existing data can be easily carried out in new versions.
  • The Enterprise Edition is offered in conjunction with complete maintenance, support and implementation support through iteratec.

History

The first version of the application was developed in 2004 by iteratec and came with customers iteratec GmbH as EAM tool to use. Versions 1.0 to 1.8 are still originated in the mid 2007 as a closed source.

In early 2008 the source code was first set on SourceForge as open source project and published simultaneously in the completely revised version 2.0 of the open source license AGPL. Since that time iteraplan found some attention and a wider distribution, including at companies like HUK- COBURG, Otto, VKB - Bank but also in government agencies like the HPA

In May 2008, Version 2.1 was released with bug fixes and many new features. Published in February 2009, version 2.2 was characterized by refactorings. In May 2009, version 2.3, which brought a lot of convenience functions to be followed.

The next major leap to version 3.0 in April of 2012. Among the most important changes included the change in technology on twitter bootstrap with übersichtlicherem user interface as well as the responsive web design for the iteraplan usage on smartphones and tablet computers.

Version 3.1 of July 2013 brought in addition to a number of bug fixes and usability improvements with new functions in the life cycle management and roadmap planning. The current version 3.2 ( October 2013 ) provides a REST interface and improves both the dashboard feature and the visualizations.

For the coming years, new releases are planned in April and October. The company employs iteratec all active developer of the project and offers to iteraplan among other consulting, training and support.
