Itumeleng Khune

Itumeleng Khune ( born June 20, 1987 in Ventersdorp ) is a South African football goalkeeper.

Club career

Khune joined with 13 years Kaizer Chiefs in the squad and is the first team since 2005, but only came after the departure of Rowen Fernandez against Jomo Cosmos on August 25, 2007 on his league debut in the Premier Soccer League ( PSL). Outstanding achievements in his first regular season ensured a flood of awards. He was voted the best goalkeeper of the season and freshman and selected by the league players in the PSL and the best player of the season. When the Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout victory he received the awards for best players and goalkeepers. Club Intern 2008 he was honored as player of the season and also elected by his fellow players as the best player of the season.

National

Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira Khune nominated for the 2008 African Cup without this previously completed an international match. During the tournament, he remained behind Moeneeb Joseph nor substitute goalkeeper, but was shortly afterwards on 11 March 2008 against Zimbabwe his international debut. Under Parreira's successor Joel Santana be Khune became the first-choice goalkeeper and was part of the banns of the Confederations Cup in 2009 on home soil. In this tournament, he stood for all matches of the South African national team goal. Even after returning Parreiras in the Office of National Trainers remained Khune goalkeeper and was also appointed for the 2010 World Cup. In the opening match against Mexico, he showed a strong performance. In the second group game against Uruguay, he was in the 76th minute after a emergency brake the red card. His place in the gate took a Moeneeb Joseph, who represented him in the final group game against France. Since South Africa was then already been eliminated, Khune was no further use in this World Cup.
