Iulian Filipescu

Iulian Sebastian Filipescu ( born March 29, 1974 in Slatina ) is a former Romanian football player. He played a total of 348 games in the Romanian Liga 1, the Turkish Süper Lig, the Spanish Primera División, the Swiss Axpo Super League and the German Bundesliga. His strengths are positional play, his calm and experience.

Career

Club career

The career of Filipescu began in 1991 at Faur Bucharest before moving to the Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest in 1992. Even in his first season, he was promoted to regular player and won during his time at Steaua four times in a row the league and Romanian Cup 1996.

In autumn 1996 Filipescu Romania left and moved to the top Turkish club Galatasaray. There followed in the years 1997 and 1998 two more championships. During the winter break of 1998/99 he moved to Spain to Real Betis. After a midfield placing at the end of the season, the club rose after the 1999/2000 season in the Segunda División. There succeeded the immediate resurgence. After that, the club started by and moved into the UEFA Cup at the end of the season. As the season progresses, however, had Filipescu lost his place and came only irregularly employed.

In January 2004, left Filipescu Spain, after he had not come in the first round to use. He joined the Swiss club FC Zurich. On 13 May 2006 the end of stoppage time he shot on the final day of the Axpo Super League FC Basel a few seconds, the crucial second goal for FC Zurich, who thereby won his 10th title. It was also his first and last goal for the city of Zurich club.

On 15 June 2006 his move to Germany was announced. The MSV Duisburg obliged the central defender until 2008. During the first year of his promotion to the Bundesliga. After the descent of 2008 and the expiry of his contract, he finished his career.

National team

Filipescu played between 27 March 1996 and 2003 a total of 52 times for the Romanian national football team, scoring once (1999 against Cyprus). He participated in the European Football Championships in 1996 and 2000 and at the 1998 World Cup.
