During the four emperors year 69 AD Placidus served on the staff of Marcus Antonius Primus in the army of Vespasian. Tacitus recorded that it was Placidus, who as tribune cohortis led the raiding party at the capture of Rome by the Flavian dynasty, which penetrated to the palace of Vitellius. He arrested the Emperor and led him through the streets of Rome, where he tortured Vitellius and exposing the abuse of the plebs. A soldier of Vitellius, who wanted to come to the aid of his master, hit Placidus ear off.
