Iva Bittová

Iva Bittová ( born July 22, 1958 in Bruntál ) is a Czech singer, actress and violinist. As a musician, internationally known she was the documentary on Fred Frith " Step Across The Border " (1990), in which they can be seen together with Pavel Fajt.

Life and work

Born into a musical family Bittová received ballet and violin lessons at a young age. Later she studied acting, singing, violin ( with Rudolf Šťastný ) and composition.

As a child she played different roles in Czech movies and television productions. In the early '80s, she devoted herself more and more of the music and developed his own singing and violin style. Their music takes on a very heterogeneous influences. Intermediate jazz, avant-garde, Moravian folk and classic songwriting is looking for new means of expression, where its always variable, tender is in the foreground to penetrating voice. In the nineties she found international recognition and occurs regularly since then on in Europe, the USA and Japan.

The English avant-garde musician Fred Frith dedicated his String Quartet No. 1 " Lelekovice " (1990). She is successful as a soloist. In addition, she has worked among others with Hamid Drake, Marc Ribot, David Krakauer, Don Byron, Tom Cora, Phil Minton, David Moss, George Mraz, Jaromír Honzák and Bill Frisell.

In addition to her musical career, Bittová operated as before as an actress. In 2003, she played the role of Zena in the feature film " Zelary " which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2004.

Iva Bittová has two sons and lived with this for a long time in Lelekovice, a village near Brno. In 2007 she moved to the United States.
