Ivailo Kalfin

Ivailo Georgiev Kalfin (also Ivailo Georgiev Kalfin written, Bulgarian Ивайло Георгиев Калфин; * May 30, 1964 in Sofia) is a Bulgarian politician of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and Member of the European Parliament.

Ivailo Kalfin studied from 1983 to 1988 at the Sofia University of National and World Economy and 1998-1999 at Loughborough University in England. He founded the National Socialist movement and was vice chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Bulgaria and the European Union. 1994-1997, 2000-2001 and since 2005 he was a member of the Bulgarian National Assembly. Since 2004 he is a member of the consultative body of the Bulgarian National Bank. 2001 and 2004 he served as election observer for the OSCE in Kosovo. From 2002 to 2005 he worked as an economic advisor to the President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov, and from 2005 to 2009, he was Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

In the European elections in 2009 Kalfin was the top candidate of the Coalition for Bulgaria and was elected as a deputy in the European Parliament. On July 27, he was replaced by Rumjana Jeleva as Foreign Minister. In the European Parliament he is vice chairman of the Budget Committee.
