Ivan Andreadis

Ivan Andreadis (* April 3, 1924; † 27 October 1992 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak tennis players. He won the world championship four times in a double, even in mixed and four times with the Czechoslovak team. Twice he was runner-up in singles.

Career

Andreadis first club was a Union I Prague, in 1936, he moved to Spartak Prague. He started as a defender, later he acquired the attacking play on. In 1937 he became Czechoslovak Youth Champion. In 1939 he won the Czechoslovak Championship for Men. He succeeded in 1954 and 1961 again.

International career

Andreadis first time was in the fall of 1945 in the national team.

Between 1936 and 1963 he took part in the World Championships 13 times. In 1949 he became the first world champion when he beat his compatriots Bohumil Vana / Ladislav Štípek with his doubles partner Frantisek Tokar. He repeated this success in 1951 with Bohumil Vana by a playoff victory against Hungary Ferenc Sido / József Kóczián. 1955 and 1957 he played doubles with Ladislav Štípek and each won the title with victories against the Yugoslavs Vilim Harangozo / Zarko Dolinar (1955) and against the strong Japanese Toshiaki Tanaka / Ichiro Ogimura. Double World Championship runner he was in 1950 ( with Frantisek Tokar ) and 1956 ( with Ladislav Štípek ).

In the individual he was twice runner-up: In 1951, he lost in the final against Johnny Leach, 1953 against Ferenc Sido.

With the Czechoslovakia team he won in 1947, 1948, 1950 and 1951, the gold medal. In mixed competition he won in 1954 with the Hungarian Gizella Farkas. In the ITTF World Ranking 1951, he was out in second place.

In 1953 he was awarded the title of Master of Sports. In 1995, he was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame.

Private

Andreadis was official. He was married and has a daughter (born 1954 ).

Beginning of 1958, he was temporarily suspended by his association for smuggling.
