Ivan Kamenec

Ivan Kamenec ( born August 27, 1938 in Nitra ) is a Slovak historian. It especially deals with the history of the First Slovak Republic.

Life

In 1961 Kamenec completed a study of the history and cultural history at the Faculty of Philosophy, Comenius University, Bratislava. He then worked at the Slovak National Archives, the Slovak National Museum and is currently senior staff member of the Historický ústav ( Historical Institute ). He is mainly concerned with the study and the interpretation of the political and cultural history of the 20th century.

He also discusses some theoretical issues of the Slovak historiography and its development. His research he focuses primarily on the problem of the history of the Slovak Republic from 1939 to 1945. His main focus is the historical reconstruction of the political system, the Holocaust and the profiles of the highest political dignitaries of that State dar.

Externally he lectures at universities and Slovak occurs with technical presentations on at scientific conferences at home and abroad.
