Ivan Kliun

Ivan Vasilyevich Kljun (Russian: Иван Васильевич Клюн; * 20 Augustjul / September 1 1873greg in Bolschije Gorky, Vladimir province, .. † December 13, 1943 in Moscow) was a Russian painter, printmaker and sculptor. He is regarded as representative of the Russian avant-garde, in particular of Suprematism and Constructivism.

Life and work

Kljun was born into a peasant family in 1873 in Bolschije Gorki (near Moscow). From 1881 he lived with the family in Ukraine. In 1890 he moved to Poland, which was then part of the Russian Empire. Original art education in Kiev and Warsaw ( also served as an accountant ) in 1890. During the years 1902-1907 he attended courses in Rerberg studio in Moscow, where he met Mashkov and Malevich. In particular, Malevich had a great influence on his career and brought him into the circle of the founders of the Russian avant-garde and the Cubo-Futurism, Suprematism later. On the " 0.10 Exhibition" in Petrograd in 1915, published for the first time Kljun his cubist and abstract sculptures.
