Ivan Krylov

Ivan Andreyevich Krylov (Russian: Иван Андреевич Крылов, scientific transliteration Ivan Krylov Andreevič; * 2 Februarjul / February 13 1769greg in Moscow, .. .. † 9 Novemberjul / November 21 1844greg in Saint Petersburg ) is considered the greatest fabulist Russian literature.

Krylov was the son of an officer. He was petty official, tutor and librarian in Saint Petersburg.

His total of more than 200 fables published 1809-1843. In 1842 also an edition of his Fables appeared in German language.

Krylov's fables were inspired at the beginning of his literary work quite freely from the works of Aesop and Jean de La Fontaine. This was only the beginning of his career the case, all the later works are his own. As he wrote in Russian slang, which also understood the common man, a number of his verses in Russia has become proverbs.
