Ivan Nielsen ( born October 9, 1956 in Frederiksberg ) is a retired Danish footballer.

Career

Nielsen began his career at Fremad Amager in his native Denmark. In September 1977, he played for the first time in the Danish U- 21 team. These appearances in the U 21 was the beginning of the change to Netherlands for Feyenoord Rotterdam. In Rotterdam, the defender once won the Dutch championship and Dutch Cup twice. In 1986 he moved to PSV Eindhoven. When working club he experienced his most successful period. He won the Dutch championship three times and twice the Dutch Cup. In 1988, he won the European Champions Cup with PSV. In the final against Benfica played by Nielsen, he also turned a penalty in the decisive penalty shootout. In 1990, he returned to his regular club back Fremad Amager. After that he played from 1991-1992 at Boldklubben 1903. In the season 1992/ 1993 he was at FC Copenhagen under contract, where he was equal to the Danish champions. In 1993 he was still at short notice Næstved BK under contract, where he was also coach at this time. From 1995-1996 he was a coach at Dragør BK.

Internationally, he played 51 times for Denmark. He took part in the European Championships in 1984 in France, came to the semi-finals of the Denmark. He also participated in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico (off in the second round ) and the European Championships in Germany in 1988 in part ( Eliminated in the group stage ).
