Ivan Reitman

Ivan Reitman, OC ( born October 27, 1946 in Komárno, Czechoslovakia) is a director and producer of many successful U.S. films.

Life

Reitman has lived in Canada since 1950. He comes from a Hungarian Jewish family. He graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton in Canada, he worked for the TV station CITY- TV in Toronto. After almost a year, he was fired. With the film I think, ' Animal House ( National Lampoon 's Animal House) in 1978, he managed the breakthrough as a director and film producer.

Reitman as a director of comedies like Ghostbusters - ( 1989 followed by 1984, the sequel Ghostbusters II) known Ghostbusters. He has promoted, among others, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Kristine DeBell and Anne Heche with his films. In 1984 he was honored by the National Association of Theatre Owners as the Director of the Year (Director of the Year ). He has received, among other things Twins - the Film Award People's Choice Award twins.

In 2000, Reitman formed the production company The Montecito Picture Company, we would just produce about movies.

Reitman is married to the actress Geneviève Robert since 1976 and has three children. His son Jason Reitman is also a director.

Honors

2001 Reitman received a star on Canada 's Walk of Fame in Toronto.

In 2009 he was appointed " for his services as a producer and director as well as for the promotion of the Canadian film and television industry," an Officer of the Order of Canada.
