Ivanec is a city in Croatia. It is located in the County of Varaždin. Mayor 's Milorad Batinić.

Geography

The city is located in Ivanec eponymous municipality in northwestern Croatia, in the County of Varaždin. Ivanec located in the northeastern part of the Croatian Zagorje, in the valley of the river Bednja, at the foot of Ivanscica, the highest mountain in northwestern Croatia, the highest peak 1061M above sea level lies.

Population

The municipality counts according to Census 2011 13.758 inhabitants, of whom 5,234 live in Ivanec. History

The emergence of the city Ivanec is to contact the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Fratres hospitalis sancti Johannis Iherosolimitani in conjunction, which are known in Croatian as " Ivanovci " (Hospitallers) (hence the name Ivanec ). The first written evidence of their presence indicate the year 1201, as the "Village of Ivanovci " (villa hospitalariorum ) was mentioned. Ivanec is first mentioned in the deed, the Ivan Paližna jun. on June 22, 1396 exhibited in Bela, and which was preserved in the copy of Albert de Nagmihal, prior of Vrana and Banus of Croatia and Dalmatia, in 1421, issued in Pakrac. This document confirms that Ivanec was under the ownership of Bela Ivanovci even 600 years ago. It is believed that Ivanec named after the chapel " Sv. The Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus sold the Bela - owned by 5600 ducats to the Hungarian Count de Gerse Petheö family, who built the mid-16th century a castle. The counts Erdoedy, the owner of Bela Ivanec and Jurketinec have the castle from 1740 rebuilt, and the family Kukuljević - Sakcinski has awarded the final appearance of the castle. Economy

The mines were closed in 1975, when the state began essential means to get exposure to the industry's development. In the best of times 5500 employees in Ivanec were employed, but today that number has shrunk to 3,000. Today the most important contributors to economic activity are the shoe factory ( Tvornica obuće " Ivančica " dd ), the meat industry ( Industry of mesa Ivanec " IMI " ) - the largest beef exporter in Croatia, and " ITAS " - short for the factory of machine tools Ivanec ( " Ivanečka Tvornica Alatnih Strojeva ").
