Iver Holter

Iver Holter ( born December 13, 1850 in Østre Gausdal; † January 27, 1941 in Oslo) was a Norwegian composer.

Holter studied medicine from 1869 to 1876 in Christiania and took additional tuition in counterpoint with Johan Svendsen. Until 1879 he studied at the conservatory in Leipzig, then until 1881 in Berlin. In 1882, he was the successor of Edvard Grieg Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra harmonies in Bergen, from 1886 he was conductor of the Musical Society of Christiania. He also taught music theory and worked as a music journalist.

Holter composed a symphony, an orchestral suite in Goethe's Götz von Berlichingen, Idylls for orchestra, piano pieces and songs.
