Ivo Gönner

Ivo patrons ( born February 18, 1952 in Laupheim ) is a German SPD local politician and since 1992 the Lord Mayor of Ulm.

Education and work

Ivo patrons was born the son of a pharmacist Laupheim and grew up in the Upper Swabian Laupheim. He attended the College of St. Blaise in the Black Forest. His community service he rendered in Ulm, before he began his studies of law at the University of Heidelberg. 1978 returned patrons back to Ulm when he was a trainee at the District Court and then to 1992 worked as an independent lawyer.

Political activity

From 1980 Ivo patrons sat in the council, where he was leader of the SPD in 1985, before he replaced 1992 Ernst Ludwig of the CDU as mayor. He was re-elected with 79.9 % in 1999. His challenger Frank Ahnefeld of the CDU won only 14.1%. In the election on December 2, 2007 he was re-elected with 80.2 % for the second time; in this election presented the CDU from the outset not own candidate.

As Mayor of Ulm patrons is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtwerke Ulm. In the summer of 2007, he resisted against the representation of Ulm as a hotbed of Islamist terrorists and their recruitment center. From 2001 to 2005 patrons was Chairman of the Social Democratic Association for Local policy in Baden- Württemberg. He was appointed Speaker of the nine major cities of Baden-Württemberg in Cities and deputy of the then president of the Baden- Württemberg of Cities 2002. President of the Baden-Württemberg of Cities he was then from 2005 to end of 2010. In the discussion about Stuttgart21 patrons showed up as a staunch supporter of this project. In February 2012, patrons was elected to the Presidium of the German Association of Cities.

Other offices

Ivo patron is a member of the University Council of the University of Education Weingarten.

Family and Private

Ivo patrons is married to journalist Susanne Schwarzkopf patrons and has two children.
