Ivo Tijardović

Ivo Tijardović (born 18 September 1895 in Split, † March 19, 1976 in Zagreb) was a Yugoslav composer, librettist, director and theater director.

Tijardović studied architecture and music in Vienna and then in Zagreb until 1922 spectacle. He then began to work on the theater of his hometown as a set and costume designer, director, conductor and choreographer. These activities brought him in 1933 the post of director at the opera theater in Split one. After 1941, Tijardović the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army joined. After the Second World War he was director 1945-49 of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, then from 1949-54 director of the Zagreb Philharmonic.

As Tijardovićs particular merit is considered the creation of an independent Croatian operetta, which combined elements of the Italian- Venetian tradition of music with Slavic folklore and the dance rhythms of the twenties. After the war he wrote a musical, then devoted himself but the opera composition. Furthermore, narrated by him ballets, cantatas and overtures.
