Ivo Vajgl

Ivo Vajgl ( born March 3, 1943 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian journalist, diplomat and politician.

After the completion of the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana Vajgl worked as a journalist and as a spokesman for the Yugoslav Foreign Ministry. From 1976-1980 he worked as a correspondent for the Yugoslav press in Bonn.

In 1984 he was Consul General of SFR Yugoslavia in Cleveland USA. More diplomatic functions followed. 1998 to 2002 he was Ambassador of Slovenia in Austria, as well as the OSCE and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In 2004 Vajgl Slovenia was foreign minister. He belonged to the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia, but resigned in 2007 over to the newly founded party Zare. Subsequently, he was 2004-2007 foreign policy advisor to President Janez Drnovšek, and 2008-2009 Deputy to the National Assembly. Since 2009 he is a member of the European Parliament.

He is married and has three children.
