Ivor Bolton

Ivor Bolton ( born May 17, 1958 in Blackrod ( Lancashire ), England ) is an English conductor.

Bolton studied at Cambridge University, the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio in London. In 1984 he founded the St. James's Baroque Players. 1992 to 1997 he was music director of the Glyndebourne Touring Opera, 1994-1996 Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. In 1998 he was awarded the Bavarian Theatre Prize. Since autumn 2004 he has been chief conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. 2015 Bolton is music director of the Madrid Opera House with a five-year contract.
