Iwami Ginzan (Jap.石 见 银山; German " Iwami Silver Mine ") is a former silver mine in Japanese ODA ( Shimane Prefecture).

The mine was in the 16th century to reduce the rich silver deposits in the mountains Yōgai -san (要害 山) and Sen-no -yama (仙ノ山) built. She had finally shut down in 1923 their most productive time with one to two thousand kilograms of silver per year and was up until the late 17th century.

The mine ( consisting of approximately 600 manholes and pits ) is since 28 June 2007 with their culture landscape as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The case captured the core area with 14 different sites ( including the sites of former production sites, settlements, forts, tombs, shrines, transportation routes and ports ) is 442 acres in size.
