Iwan Wirth

Iwan Wirth ( b. 1970, Zurich ) is a Swiss art dealer, gallery owner and president of Hauser & Wirth Zurich London. He began to sell the age of seven works of art and opened his first gallery in 1986 as a student in St. Gallen.

Wirth founded in 1992 together with Ursula Hauser and Wirth gallery Manuela Hauser & Wirth Zurich. Since 1996, the gallery is located next to art museums and galleries of contemporary art in Löwenbräuareal on the Limmat River Street. Opened in 2003, Hauser & Wirth London on Piccadilly in an historic building by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Three years later, another office and showroom premises were occupied in Old Bond Street. The Hauser & Wirth Collection, a private collection of the family moved in 1999 a former Lokremise in St. Gallen, pointing to 2004 in public exhibitions of art from their extensive inventory. Wirth founded in 2000 in New York along with the art dealer David Zwirner on East 69th Street, the gallery Zwirner & Wirth.

The ' The Power 100' list of the Art Review magazine placed 2008 Wirth as the most important art dealer in Europe to square one and explain the world number two, and " If you want a gallery owner who truly does everything, then Iwan Wirth is your man". The New York Times described Wirth as one of the most influential players in the contemporary art world and the artist survey of the '100 Best International Galleries ' of Flash Art magazine chose Hauser & Wirth to number one in Europe and number two worldwide.
