IZA Prize in Labor Economics

The IZA Prize in Labor Economics since 2002 by the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA ) in the Economic Research awarded as Science Award " for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of labor economics ."

Doping and price components

The price includes a medal and prize is endowed with 50,000 euros. The prize money is intended to promote research in the field of labor economics. Each winner is obliged to contribute a band to IZA Prize book series.

Nomination and selection

In a nomination process, members of the international network of researchers who cooperate with IZA as a Research Fellows can earn scientist for the IZA Prize suggest. The prize committee, composed of representatives of the IZA and external economists who decides the winner.

IZA Prize Committee

Since the founding of the IZA Prize four Nobel Prize winners have participated in the prize committee: George Akerlof, Gary Becker, James Heckman, and Joseph Stiglitz. IZA Prize book series

Each IZA Prize winner controls a band with its main research results on " IZA Prize in Labor Economics Book Series " in which co-published by IZA Director Klaus F. Zimmermann and other scientists at the IZA and is published by Oxford University Press.

IZA Prize winner

Past winners include labor market researchers who are active in policy advice and cover various areas of the political spectrum. For example, Edward Lazear was chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President George W. Bush; Alan Krueger has been nominated by President Barack Obama for the same items.
