S -Bahn Izmir

Izban is the S -Bahn system, which opens up the 3.5 million inhabitants metropolitan Izmir in western Turkey and connects the north-west and south of the city suburbs and the airport with the city center of Izmir. The name is an acronym Izban from İzmir and Banliyö Trenleri (Eng. " suburban trains İzmir "). History

Izban was founded on 10 January 2007. It is a joint project of the Turkish state-owned railway company TCDD and the Metropolitan Municipality of Izmir. Both partners must be 50 percent owner of the public company.

The previously operated on the routes mixed traffic from commuter trains and regional trains was not much used by the inhabitants of the metropolitan area. The decision to modernize tracks and railway facilities and fundamentally rebuild and replace the rolling stock complete with modern low-floor tram trains the number of users rose sharply. Line network
