Izbicko

Room village (Polish Izbicko ) is a village and capital of the same rural community in the Upper Silesian powiat Strzelecki in the Opole Voivodeship, the bilingual since 2006 (Polish and German ).

Geography

The road Dorfstube village located 15 kilometers southwest of Opole and 10 kilometers northwest of Strzelce ( United Strehlitz ) in the Silesian Lowland.

History

The first written mention of the name comes from a document of the Breslau Bishop John III. Romka of 17 November 1295 in the parish Istbisco, or Yczbczko was confirmed. 1318 the local parish church was mentioned, which belonged to the United Archipresbyteriat Strehlitz. Originally, the Vorwerk office village belonged to the Dukes of Opole in 1556, and came into the possession of various noble families, most recently from 1811 to 1945 of the von Strachwitz.

After the plebiscite in Upper Silesia in 1921, which yielded a result of 439 votes ( 69.4 %) to remain with Germany in the village and good room village, the Third Polish insurrection broke out in the region. The local Strachwitzsche castle was set on fire and destroyed by insurgents. The place remained in the Weimar Republic, and came after the Second World War in 1945 as Izbicko to Poland.

Since not all German inhabitants fled or were driven out, was able to maintain an ethnic German minority in the area. 2006 Brygida Pytel was elected mayor. Prior to Manfred Grabelus, Andrzej Gelles, Stefan Kulig, Kazimierz Janka, Andrzej Baksik and a gentleman Kralewski were mayor of the postwar period.

Coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms is divided and shows up a black boar on a green background. The lower part is divided and the right shows two yellow ears of wheat in Yellow and left a black carp in blue.

Attractions

  • The Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist was originally built of wood and was awarded in 1829 a stone tower. 1852 followed the neo-Romanesque nave, which was supplemented in 1908 by a transept and a new choir. Also, the massive tower with pyramidal roof at that time was given its present shape. The church stands in the middle of the local cemetery, on which there is a baroque Nepomuk statue from the 18th century.
  • The neo-classical building of the facility Strand Palace was destroyed in 1921 and renewed neo-baroque in the sequence 1923-1932.
