Izhar Cohen

Izhar Cohen, also Yizhar Cohen (Hebrew יזהר כהן; born March 13, 1951 in Givatayim ) is an Israeli singer.

First participation at the Euro Vision Song Contest

Izhar Cohen took with his backing group The Alpha Beta (consisting of Reuven Erez, Lisa Gold - Rubin, Nehama Shutan, esters Tzuberi and Itzhak OKÉV, also written The Alpha - Beta) in the Israeli preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest 1978 part. Cohen was the first Israeli winner of the competition, so that Israel was also the first non- European country that emerged as the winner. On his return to Tel Aviv he was received by thousands of people who hailed him as a hero.

Second participation in the Euro Vision Song Contest

Izhar Cohen 1982 tried to represent Israel again in the competition, but failed in the preliminary and ended up in seventh place with the title El ha'or. In 1985 he again took part in the Israeli preliminaries and won this time with the song Olé, olé (composed by Kobi Oshrat, text written by Hamutal Ben Zeev ) the ticket to Gothenburg. When Euro Vision Song Contest in Sweden he reached the fifth place with 93 points in 19 participants. Although the track was recorded also in English and French and was published in many countries, he could not place in the charts internationally.
