J Mascis

J Mascis, actually Joseph Donald Mascis Jr. ( born December 10, 1965 in Amherst, Massachusetts) is an American musician, best known as the singer and guitarist of indie band Dinosaur Jr..

Career

Before 1984 he founded Dinosaur Jr., was the drummer of the group Deep Wound. A call to join as drummer for Nirvana, he refused. Dinosaur Jr. became one of the pioneers of the American alternative rock scene of the 1980s. After the departure of Lou Barlow from the group Mascis was the only permanent member of the band. Published in 1996, Mascis an acoustic solo album Martin & M. In 2000, he was with J Mascis The Fog. In 2005 he recorded the album J Friends Sing Chant for AMMA, a throwback to the Indian guru Amritanandamayi. In 2005 it came to the reunion of Dinosaur Jr.

In 2005, Mascis with Dave Sweetapple and Kyle Thomas the side project " Witch". The band slightly reminiscent of the old sounds of Black Sabbath. With Witch Mascis recorded two studio albums.

That same year, Dinosaur Jr. got back together in the original cast and played live at some festivals and tours. Then in 2007 released their comeback album Beyond, 2009, the album Farm.

In 2011 he released his solo album Several Shades of Why.
