J. C. Holt

Sir James Clarke Holt, often cited JC Holt, ( born April 26, 1922) is a former English professor of medieval history. He is regarded as one of the leading historians in the study of Robin Hood and the Magna Carta.

Holt attended Bradford Grammar School and in 1952 received his doctorate at the University of Oxford ( The ' northern ' barons under John ). 1962 to 1965 he was professor of medieval history at the University of Nottingham, 1965-1978 Professor of History at the University of Reading in 1978 until his retirement in 1988 professor of medieval history at Cambridge University, where he also 1981-1988 Master of Fitzwilliam College was.

He was particularly known for his book on the Magna Carta, which he placed in the political situation of the time.

In 1978 he became a Fellow of the British Academy and was from 1987 to 1989 as Vice President. 1981 to 1985 he was president of the Royal Historical Society.
