J. Ernest Wharton

James Ernest Wharton ( born March 23, 1899 in Binghamton, New York, † January 19, 1990 in Summit, New York ) was an American politician of the Republican Party and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the state of New York.

Wharton made ​​his education at Union College and Albany Law School. From 1920 to 1929 he worked for Travelers, before he worked in Richmondville as a private lawyer; 1932 to 1941 he served as District Attorney in Schoharie County and then to 1951 as County Judge. He served during the Second World War in the United States Army

Wharton was elected to Congress in 1950 and remained there from 3 January 1951 to January 3, 1965 after he lost his 1964 re-election to Democrat Joseph Y. Resnick. He retired from politics after that and worked in the field of property development.
